Sound is vibrations of what waves?
Sound is created by vibrations of something. What creates the vibrations can be anything that has mass and takes up space. For example, a vibrating guitar string creates sound waves that travel through the air and are heard by our ears.
The vibrations that create sound can be caused by many things. For example, you can create sound waves by hitting something with a hammer, plucking a guitar string, or blowing into a metal tube.
What creates the vibrations doesn’t have to be something solid. A vibrating tuning fork can create sound waves in the air. The sound waves travel until they hit something and create vibrations that our ears can hear.
The speed of the sound waves is determined by the type of material they are traveling through. For example, sound waves travel faster through air than they do through water.
The pitch of a sound is determined by how fast the sound waves are vibrating. The higher the pitch, the faster the sound waves are vibrating.
The volume of a sound is determined by how strong the vibrations are. The louder the sound, the stronger the vibrations.
