One possibility is that the AirPods are not properly paired with your device. To check this, open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and select Bluetooth. Under My Devices, you should see your AirPods listed. If they’re not listed, follow the on-screen instructions to pair them.
Another possibility is that the AirPods are not in close proximity to your device. For optimal sound quality, the AirPods should be within about 8 inches (20 centimeters) of your device.
If neither of these explanations solves the low sound quality issue, it’s possible that the AirPods are experiencing low battery life. To check the battery level of your AirPods, open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and select Bluetooth. Under My Devices, you should see your AirPods listed. Under the AirPods tab, you’ll see the current battery level and charging status.
